Head of Unit, Renewables and CCS policy

Mrs Abreu Marques is the Head of Unit for “Renewables and CCS policy” in the European Commission, DG Energy. She is responsible for defining and implementing the EU renewable energy policy, including the Renewable Energy Directive and its recast for the period 2021-2030, and the assessment of Member States’ renewable energy objectives in the national energy and climate plans for 2030. She is also overseeing the wider enabling policies and measures, and notably through EU funding programmes designed to make the EU world number one in renewable energy, and is in charge of developing the Commission’s strategy on Carbon Capture and Storage, set in the context of the long-term decarbonisation strategy. Previously, Mrs Abreu Marques was the Head of Unit for “International Energy Relations and Enlargement” in the European Commission, where she defined and steered the general approach in the area of international energy relations. She graduated in economics at the Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon and has a master in European economics by the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
