After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant at EY Mike spent a short time in the oil industry before becoming a base metals trader at Glencore where he traded global copper for 7 years
Mike joined the electricity industry in late 2002 and traded power for Axpo, Essent Trading, and Eon/Uniper. At Uniper he headed up the structured trading desk before starting the structured Origination function focusing on Virtual Power Plants and renewable assets.
After heading up the Power Origination at BP, where he led several renewable PPA transactions, he joined ElectroRoute this year to grow the structured contracting arm of their business.
This session is a chance to discuss the future of power sales as companies move away from subsidised projects and reduce reliance on PPAs, towards trading energy. We will discuss how companies can navigate these waters as power prices fluctuate, what hedging mechanisms exist and how nimble and responsive you need to be to succeed.
