Alfonso Ortal

Alfonso Ortal is the CEO of Verdian, a Nuveen Infrastructure portfolio company, where he leads the development of a pan‑European next-generation IPP platform focused on energy infrastructure and flexibility.

He brings over a decade of experience scaling renewable and energy businesses across Europe and North America, combining an operator’s mindset with a strong strategic and investment background.

Prior to Verdian, Alfonso held senior leadership roles at Galp, most notably as CEO of Galp Solar, where he led the company’s expansion in Portugal and Spain, significantly increased revenues, and supported the decarbonisation of its client base.

Earlier in his career, he worked at Bain & Company in New York and Toronto, advising corporates and private equity investors on growth strategies, digital transformation, investments, and acquisitions. He also held roles at Tesla, where he focused on market development for its energy storage division, and at E.ON, working across renewable energy, trading, and international business development.

Alfonso holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and engineering degrees from Cranfield University and the University of Seville. He has served on advisory and board committees, including at Energy Impact Partners, and has been recognised as one of Spain’s leading professionals in energy and engineering by the Nova 111 List.
